Live Forex, Gold and Crypto Prices in Excel

The biquote add-in gives Excel two formulas: one for a live price, one for converting between currencies, metals, crypto and Grand Bazaar gold. The cells update themselves every 30 seconds. It's free, and you don't need an API key or an account.

The add-in is being reviewed for Microsoft AppSource. This page will link to the listing once it is live.

1. Install

In Excel, open Home → Add-ins (or Insert → Get Add-ins), search for biquote and add it. Then Home → Market data opens the task pane. It works in Excel for Windows and Mac (Microsoft 365) and in Excel on the web.

2. A live price

=BIQUOTE.PRICE("EURUSD")
=BIQUOTE.PRICE("XAUUSD", "ask")
=BIQUOTE.PRICE("BTCUSDT", "change")
=BIQUOTE.PRICE(A2)

The second argument picks the field: mid (default), bid, ask, high, low, change (daily %), spread, time, stale or name. Symbols are the ones on the market pages, and the task pane searches them for you.

3. Convert

=BIQUOTE.CONVERT(100, "USD", "EUR")
=BIQUOTE.CONVERT(B2, "GBP", "JPY")
=BIQUOTE.CONVERT(1, "XAU", "TRY")
=BIQUOTE.CONVERT(0.25, "BTC", "USD")

When the feed quotes the pair directly (EURTRY), that rate is used. Otherwise the conversion goes through USD.

4. Grand Bazaar (Kapalıçarşı) gold and rates

Turkish names work in both formulas. With Turkish regional settings Excel uses ; between arguments:

=BIQUOTE.PRICE("gram altın")
=BIQUOTE.PRICE("çeyrek"; "satış")
=BIQUOTE.CONVERT(2; "çeyrek"; "EUR"; "kapalicarsi")
=BIQUOTE.CONVERT(1000; "dolar"; "TL"; "kapalicarsi")

Recognised names include gram altın, has altın, çeyrek, yarım, tam, ata, ata beşli, gremse, 22 ayar, 14 ayar, gümüş, ons, plus dolar, euro, sterlin and TL. The optional fourth argument "kapalicarsi" uses Grand Bazaar dealer rates; the default "market" uses broker rates. All Grand Bazaar prices are on tr.biquote.io.

5. Updating

Both formulas are streaming functions: while the workbook is open they refresh themselves every 30 seconds, with no button to press. Prices for many cells are fetched together in one request.
